Sunday Randomness #313: Just sharing some Utah State Fair Foodie Fun Facts

Fry sauce-multiple recipes online, also widely available at Utah fast food places.  One of the most reliable places to find fry sauce?  Arctic Circle.

Honey-there are many local Utah honey producers that you can find through a quick internet search.

Funeral Potatoes The Deseret News Jan. 31, 2023 had an article about the famous Utah funeral potatoes along with an vintage soup ad.

Sunday Randomness #3425 State Fair Entries 2023: Ribbon count

34 food entries-
25 ribbons: 8 blue first place, 7 red second place, 9 white third place, and 1 pink fourth place

While it was fun, if not grueling at times, endeavoring to make so many food entries, I'm undecided if I will enter things in the fair next year or not.  We'll just have to see.  I am proud (and thankful to my friend!) for the sourdough start that I've kept going and made a number of loaves of bread along with some chocolate muffins and cinnamon rolls.

Throwback Thursday #6: Vintage Kingsford's Corn Starch

A photocopy I made of the very old corn starch box that was in Mego's house.  It's not as old as some on Ebay ince the printing was directly on the box and the older versions had a printed label that were affixed to the cardboard box underneath. This antique box has no UPC but it does have a circle stamp with the number 31 in it which meant it was 31 cents when it was sold.  Compare that to the average price of $1.99 for a 16 oz package of corn starch in 2023.  The box features several recipes ranging from Cheesecake, Lemon Meringue Pie, Fruit Glaze, Macaroni and Cheese, and Melting Moments.

Sunday Randomness: #178: Another example of Dr. office medical advertisements-healthy restaurant eating

While going in for some follow up at my doctor's office I found a new ad to share.  This one is about Choosing Wisely at Fast Food Restaurants.  I did a similar  bunch of posts back in February of 2021 starting with this post:  https://cookingandorscience.blogspot.com/2021/02/sunday-randomness-142-dr-office-medical.html
